Ms. Amy Scheide, BA Theatre (Univ of North Carolina at Charlotte)
When Ms. Scheide was in high school, many of her friends were in a theatre class and talked constantly about how much fun they were having rehearsing plays and playing theatre games. She decided to join in, and from that point on she never looked back. She not only gained confidence, but also enjoyed the challenge of creating characters and performing collaboratively in productions.
When she got to college, she chose to major in theatre and started building her resumé as a performer in many productions, specializing in classical (specifically Renaissance) theatre. Some of her favorite roles were Hermione in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, Helena in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (for which she won a Metrolina Theatre Association award for Best Supporting Actress), and Mary Brenham in Timberlake Wertenbaker's drama Our Country's Good. She also took up directing with her production of Christopher Durang's An Actor's Nightmare. Her favorite courses were Shakespeare studies, dialects, and acting.
After graduating from UNCC, she began teaching at Garinger High School. She continued her theatre adventures by helping to start Mint Hill's Black & White Theatre Company. She directed the inaugural production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, and played the roles of Dorine in Moliere's Tartuffe and Mrs. Boyle in Agatha Christie's murder mystery The Mousetrap. She then moved on to join Shakespeare Carolina in their #bardcore productions of The Winter's Tale (Emilia), and Tartuffe (Elmire.) In 2017, she wrote an original stage adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' adventure The Man in the Iron Mask, in which she played the role of Philippe. She will be a theatre artist for life, and attributes her confidence, problem solving, and people skills to her exploration in the art form.
