For this year's Spring Arts Showcase, Garinger Theatre performed a short 25-minute cutting of A Midsummer Night's Dream, William Shakespeare's most magical comedy. We performed this piece in our auditorium on May 18th, 2017. The four lovers, Hermia, Helena, Lysander, and Demetrius, were cut from the text, and the production focused instead on the rude mechanicals' play-within-a-play. It was a fitting way for us to end our first year as a theatre department, to poke fun at all of the things that go wrong during the production of a play, and to show the joy that comes from a company of players overcoming all odds to create something memorable and authentic together. Our production, directed by Ms. Amy Scheide, starred Hanh Nguyen as BOTTOM, Kaitlin Fuentes as PUCK, Joseph Gomez as OBERON, Jordan Stroman as TITANIA, Adrianne Woodard as QUINCE, Jennifer Alvarenga as FLUTE, Kailah Murphy as SNUG, Denio Siu as STARVELING, Viviana Sanchez as SNOUT, Denilson Fuentes as THESEUS, Arcardia Peralta as HIPPOLYTA, and Taylor Massey as PHILOSTRATE. Christopher Williams and Ashleigh Forney ran lights, and Manny Sanchez was the stage manager.

Garinger High School is holding its annual Winter Arts Showcase, an evening celebrating the accomplishments of its performing arts students. During this evening of music, dance, and drama, Garinger Theatre has taken this opportunity to perform three scenes from Shakespeare's history plays in a project called "We Three Kings." Performing Shakespeare for the first time ever, our incredibly talented student actors explore themes of divine right, treason, and the succession of power from the plays RICHARD II, HENRY V, and HENRY VI part 3. Come support our student actors who have courageously dedicated their time, talent, and enthusiasm to these difficult texts. (Special thanks to Shakespeare Carolina for costuming our kings, queens, nobles, and guards!) "We Three Kings" is only one part of a full evening of performance: the GHS Winter Arts Showcase is only $3 CASH at the door, and it begins at 6:30PM on December 8, 2016. For the most convenient parking, turn onto Sugar Creek from Eastway and park in the parking lot directly across the street from the Auto Bell. Enter into the building labelled 500 and we will greet you at the door! We hope to see you there for this holiday celebration. Thank you for supporting our Garinger students! Anansi the Spider: A Trickster's Courtship, a comedy by Jonathan Kisling, was Garinger Theatre's first department production in about 10 years. We performed this piece in our auditorium on October 27-28, 2016 as evening performances for the Garinger community, with a soft opening during the day on October 26, which we performed for over 200 second- and fourth-grade students from Shamrock Elementary and Briarwood Academy. Our production, directed by Ms. Amy Scheide, starred Gabby Smith as ANANSI, Arcadia Peralta as ASO, Kese Atkins as NYAME, Hanh Nguyen as MARTY, Shekinah Davis as LELIA, Manny Sanchez as EDWARDO, Viviana Sanchez as CHLOE, and dancers Jennifer Alvarenga, Abigail De'Lane Howie, Nashira Johnson, and TyAsia Robbins as the ENSEMBLE. Tyler Lowe ran lights, Amy Sanchez ran sound, Mirna Peralta stage managed with assistance from Manny Sanchez, and Tyson Lowe delivered our curtain speech. We were fortunate enough to be featured on WCCB Fox News Rising's Wilson's World, and Wilson was so supportive of our theatre's revival that he came and covered our story on his birthday.
